Alex Shives Scholarship Application Guidelines
Purpose:

The purpose of the Fund is to distribute scholarships to assist qualified recipients in their pursuit of higher education who have graduated or will be a graduating senior from either Papillion LaVista or Papillion LaVista South High School and who have participated on the boys or girls golf team at either high school.

Award:

The Fund shall annually distribute one (1) scholarship in the total amount of $2,500, split evenly per semester (i.e., $1,250 Fall Semester, and $1,250 Spring Semester).

Criteria:
  • Be enrolled full time (minimum 12 hours) in undergraduate study at an institution of higher learning.
  • Cannot have completed more than 3 years of higher education at an accredited higher learning institution.
  • Be a current, graduating senior from the Papillion School District.
  • Be a past or current member of the golf team from either Papillion LaVista or Papillion LaVista South High Schools.
Selection of the scholarship recipient shall be made from the qualifying applicants of the above-identified charitable class, based on the following criteria:
  • The recipient must show financial need.
  • The recipient must show exemplary community service.
  • The recipient must show active volunteerism.
  • A letter from the high school office stating that the applicant maintains a standard GPA of 2.5.

        Dale and Estelle Black Scholarship Application Guidelines
        Purpose:

        The Dale and Estelle Black Scholarship is available to individuals pursuing a degree in Nursing (RN or BSN), receiving a licensed practical nurse degree (LPN), pursuing a degree in geriatric studies or a nursing assistant certificate (CNA) with a preference for those planning to work in elder care, and previous recipients of the Dale and Estelle Black Scholarship.

        Award:

        The Fund shall annually distribute two (2) scholarships in the amount of $500 each. However, the Scholarship Committee may provide alternative recommendations to MCF regarding the number and amount of such scholarships.

        To qualify for the scholarship, a student must meet all of the following criteria:
        • Employee in good standing at either Brookestone of Papillion located 610 S. Polk Street, Papillion, Nebraska, 68046 or Immanuel Trinity Village located at 522 W. Lincoln Street, Papillion, Nebraska, 68046;
          • This employment requirement is waived for previous Dale & Estelle Black Scholarship recipients.
        • Be enrolled full or part time (minimum of 6 hours) in undergraduate study at an institution of higher learning;
        • Must major in Associates in Nursing (RN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), pursue a degree in geriatric studies, or be enrolled in either a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) classes.

                John J. and Doris M. Buford Legacy Fund Scholarship Application Guidelines
                Purpose:

                The John J. and Doris M. Buford Legacy Scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors or full-time college students studying in the fields of Nursing and Pre-law.

                Award:

                The Fund shall annually distribute two (2) scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each.

                Criteria:
                • Be a current, graduating high school senior; or
                • Be enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 hours) in undergraduate study at an institution of higher learning; and
                • Must enroll to major or is currently majoring in nursing or pre-law.
                Selection of the scholarship recipient shall be made from the qualifying applicants of the above- identified charitable class, based on the following criteria:
                • A letter from the high school office stating that the applicant maintains a standard GPA of 2.5 or higher.
                • Involvement in non-academic, extra-curricular activities. Scouting experience preferred, but not required.
                • Submission of the application by the deadline date.
                • Submission of a verification of the student’s semester grades and continued enrollment in high school or the institution of higher learning.

                    Kaiti Williams Memorial Scholarship Application Guidelines
                    Purpose:

                    The purpose of the Fund is to encourage, solicit, receive, and distribute scholarships to female athletes pursuing a higher education and participating in sports at the collegiate level who are graduates of Papillion LaVista South High School.

                    Award:

                    The Fund shall annually distribute one (1) scholarship in the total amount of $2,000, split evenly per semester (i.e., $1,000 Fall Semester, and $1,000 Spring Semester).

                    Criteria:
                    • Must be a graduating female senior from Papillion LaVista South High School.
                    • Must have participated in high school sports for a minimum of two (2) years.
                    • Must be participating in a collegiate sport AFTER high school graduation. Verification from the college coach is required.
                    Selection of the scholarship recipient shall be made from the qualifying applicants of the above-identified charitable class, based on the following criteria:
                    • The recipient must show evidence of community services (i.e., signed documents or letters from nonprofits or community and/or school-based programs).
                    • A letter from the school office stating that the applicant has maintained a standard GPA of 3.0.
                    • A letter of recommendation from a high school teacher or coach.
                    • Submission of the application by the deadline date.

                              Award:

                              The Fund shall annually distribute one (1) scholarship in the total amount of $2,000, split evenly per semester (i.e., $1,000 Fall Semester, and $1,000 Spring Semester).

                              Criteria:
                              • Be a current graduating senior from the Papillion LaVista High School, located at 402 E. Centennial Road, Papillion, Nebraska 68046.
                              • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
                              • Be enrolled full time (minimum 12 hours) in undergraduate study at an institution of higher learning.
                              • Applicant must be majoring in accounting, business administration, finance, economics, or any other major related to business.

                                    Purpose:

                                    The Sarpy County Bar Association Scholarship Fund makes this scholarship available to students studying criminal justice, criminology, sociology, psychology, or pre-law

                                    Award:

                                    The Fund shall annually distribute two (2) scholarships in the total amount of $1,500, split evenly per semester (i.e., $750 Fall Semester, and $750 Spring/Semester).

                                    Criteria:
                                    • Be a current, graduating high school senior.
                                    • Be enrolled full time (minimum 12 hours) in undergraduate study at an institution of higher learning.
                                    • Can’t have completed more than 3 years of higher education at an accredited higher learning institution.
                                    • Must enroll to major or is currently majoring in criminal justice, criminology, sociology, psychology or pre-law.
                                    Selection of the scholarship recipient shall be made from the qualifying applicants of the above-identified charitable class, based on the following criteria:
                                    • The recipient must show financial need.
                                    • The recipient must show exemplary community service.
                                    • The recipient must show active volunteerism.

                                          Sarpy County Sheriff's Foundation Scholarship Application
                                          Purpose:

                                          The purpose of the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Foundation Criminal Justice Scholarship Program is to provide financial aid to college students pursuing a degree in criminal justice related fields.

                                          Award:

                                          Three (3) scholarships will be awarded each year. Two scholarships to residents of Sarpy County, and one scholarship to the dependent of a Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office employee. Each scholarship will be worth $1,000.

                                          To be eligible for the Criminal Justice Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
                                          • Enrollment: Applicants must be enrolling in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field (e.g., Criminology, Law Enforcement, Forensic Science, etc.).
                                          • Academic Standing: Applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or its equivalent for the period the scholarship is in effect.
                                          • Full-Time Student: Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester).
                                          • U.S. Citizenship: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
                                          • Essay Submission: Applicants must submit an essay of 500-1,000 words discussing their interest in the field of Criminal Justice, career goals, and how they plan to contribute to the field in the future.
                                          • Scholarship Status: Applicant may not receive a full tuition scholarship through other means and receive the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Foundation Scholarship.
                                          • Residency requirement: Applicant must live in Sarpy County, unless applicant is the dependent of a Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office employee.
